Care
Lifting: Our lamps are bottom-weighted with cast iron loaders, which make them stable and heavy. Large lamps should be lifted with two hands cradling the base. Small lamps can be lifted with a hand on the base and a hand low on the neck. Lamps should never be lifted by the shade.
Use: Our lamps are electrical devices and should always be kept in a dry place, never in a damp location. To protect the integrity of the electrical components, always pull by the plug to remove from a wall socket; never pull by the the cord.
Bulbs: I recommend only LED light bulbs, as they stay cool during use, last a long time and are very energy efficient. Warm white or soft white will provide a pleasing tone. Daylight or cool white bulbs are not recommended for most spaces.
Lightbulb changes: Larger shades provide easy access just by reaching under the shade to remove and replace bulbs. Smaller shades can be removed for bulb changes by unscrewing the finial at the top and lifting the shade off. If necessary, most harps I use can also be pinched firmly and carefully lifted out of the harp saddle.
Cleaning: Lamps may be cleaned with a dry cloth, duster, or soft brush. Do not use water or solvents to clean. Our lamps are made with a permanent finish and I do not recommend applying any kind of wood conditioner.
